BYRON MOORE
Name:
Byron Moore
Actor:
Sean Faris
Background:
Byron Moore was born in 1986, and named after his great-uncle. He appears to have been a difficult child, as, when he was around eight years old, his parents allowed him to undergo a medical trial - at Metron Pharmaceuticals, under the supervision of Dr. Emil Jenkins on children "who exhibited antisocial behaviour". Unfortunately, a side effect of the drug, which targeted the adrenal system, meant that he couldn't go out in sunlight without serious physical and behavioural changes: his face becomes ridged, his eyes darken, and he becomes both extremely strong and violent. Six other boys die during Dr. Jenkins attempts to reverse the side effects in them, and Byron is hooked up to machines. Hence his parents, with the aid of a faked death certificate from Dr. Jenkins, pretend that he has drowned, while in reality keeping him locked up in their cellar.
Byron loves reading, and writing poetry, at which he seems skilled (in contrast to his parents, who appear to be typical rednecks). The cellar he lives in is plastered with pictures, lit by candles and he writes with a quill. We first see him when he is sixteen: he has a crush on Lana Lang, sneaks out of his house at night to watch her in the cemetery, and anonymously sends her poetry that he has written.
He claims to be home-schooled when he talks to Clark and Lana, who catch him spying on Lana one evening. However, Clark notices marks on his wrists and believes him to be abused by his parents. After breaking him out of the house, against Byron's wishes, Byron transforms, throws Pete into a car, and tosses Clark away.
Byron attacks Lana, and is deeply upset that he's been made into something no one can love. He then goes after Lionel Luthor, the owner of Metron Pharmaceuticals (which was closed before the drug trials were finished), prevents his helicopter from taking off, and throws Lionel out of it. Clark manages to push both himself and Byron down a nearby well, and Byron transforms back once in the dark.
At the end of the episode he is under observation in Smallville hospital under special lighting.
